What was your inspiration to create Scout?

My inspiration for creating this amazing character was to relive my own childhood, remember the books I read, remember the cartoons I watched, remember the wonderful childhood I had with my grandfather, I could see myself in the magical universe of Scout and imagine me next to my grandfather, sitting on the couch telling his life stories.  My biggest challenge was to be able to leave Scout's sparkle in the eye, and to be able to see it on every page is magnificent.

Why did you choose watercolor for this project?

Watercolor is a living organism, ink and water that react without much control.  To be a child is to have a life without control, of experimentation, mistakes and successes, curiosity of what it is like ... that was one of the ideas when I thought about watercolor.  The second was that we could have tangible materials; available to see and take in our hands, because being a child is playing with paints, brushes and pens.  And that is the feeling I wanted to convey.

How long did each illustration take?

It was a very long process before I started painting.  It all started in the elaboration of the concept, then the creation of the sketches, then we were refining the idea of ​​each scene and in this part to speed up the process I used the computer, to speed up the corrections of each scene and finally, transpose the pencil drawing to the paper and finish with watercolor, this final part of a page lasted an average of 3 to 4 days, it was a challenging and very wonderful process from start to finish.

Now that you're a father, do you think differently about the Boy Scout?

In the middle of the book's creative process, I became a father and it was wonderful to think about how my son would read this book, when he was born, every page that ended showed him, just seeing his stare at my work already inspired me to continue.  Scout represents a child's naive and pure feeling, beautiful to behold.

Anything you would like to say about this experience or the project?

It was a wonderful experience; one of my biggest challenges as an artist and being able to see the finished pages is something incredible.  Really a book is a work of art and I am very grateful to Kirk and Jon for all the patience and affection they had with me, they are two people with incredible souls.

Are you excited for Scout's next adventure and quest for superheroes?

For sure!  Scout is as restless as I am and I can't wait to bring new dreams to life for this incredible character.

Qual foi sua inspiração para criar o Scout?

Minha inspiração para criar esse personagem incrível foi em reviver a minha própria infância, relembrar os livros que lia, relembrar os desenhos animados que assistia, relembrar a infância maravilhosa que tive ao lado do meu avô, pude me ver no universo mágico do Scout e me ver ao lado do meu avô sentado no sofá contando as histórias de vida dele. Meu maior desafio foi conseguir deixar o brilho no olhar de Scout e conseguir ver isso em cada página é magnífico.

Por que você escolheu aquarela para este projeto?

Aquarela é um organismo vivo, tinta e água que reagem sem muito controle. Ser criança é ter uma vida sem controle, de experimentações, erros e acertos, curiosidade de como é aquilo...essa foi uma das ideias quando pensei na aquarela. A segunda foi em podermos ter um material original, disponível para se ver e pegar em mãos, porque ser criança é brincar com tintas, pincéis e canetas. E é essa sensação que queria passar. 

Quanto tempo cada ilustração demorou?

Foi um processo bem longo antes de começar a pintar. Tudo começou na elaboração do conceito, depois a criação dos sketchs, depois fomos refinando a ideia de cada cena e nessa parte para acelerarmos o processo usei o computador, para agilizar nas correções de cada cena e por fim, transpor o desenho a lápis para o papel e finalizar com a aquarela, essa parte final uma página durava em média uns 3 a 4 dias, foi um processo desafiador e muito maravilhoso do início ao fim.

Agora que você é pai, você pensa diferente sobre o escoteiro?

No meio do processo criativo do livro, me descobri pai e foi maravilhoso pensar em como meu filho leria esse livro, quando ele nasceu, a cada página que terminava mostrava a ele, só de ver o olhar o fixo dele no meu trabalho já me inspirava a continuar. O Scout representa o sentimento ingênuo e puro de uma criança, lindo de se ver.

Algo que você gostaria de dizer sobre essa experiência ou o projeto?

Foi uma experiência maravilhosa, um dos meus maiores desafios como artista e conseguir ver as páginas finalizadas é algo incrível. Realmente um livro é uma obra de arte e sou muito grato ao Kirk e Jon por toda a paciência e carinho que tiveram comigo, são duas pessoas de alma incrível. 

Você está animado para a próxima aventura e busca de super-heróis do Scout?

Com certeza! Scout é inquieto como eu e não vejo a hora de dar vida a novos sonhos desse personagem incrível.
